REBEL STATUES

Art Education Program

2026, March-November, Berlin, Germany

This new art project grows out of our research exploring statues in Berlin’s public space. In the streets and parks of our city, statues still reproduce stereotypes relating to gender, cultural background, class, and more. Women often appear without names and are shown performing care work. Men, on the other hand, are celebrated as heroes, generals or thinkers and are remembered by name with their own biographies. Not to mention the statues depicting women being “saved“ — or rather, abducted, kidnapped or raped.

We are excited to launch 𝑹𝑬𝑩𝑬𝑳 𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑻𝑼𝑬𝑺, a participatory art project with FLINTA* youth in Berlin. Through a series of workshops, we will explore statues in public spaces and the stereotypes they embody. Through conversations, somatic exercises, drawing and sculpture, we will reflect on how our bodies feel in public spaces, question how women are represented in statues and finally create new rebel figures for the city. ⚡︎ We’ll wrap up the project with a final exhibition presenting the works and processes developed during the workshops.
